Smooth Collies shed their hair heavily two times a year, they require daily brushing during this period. Don’t Shave your pet because their hair protects them from temperature. Well, the matter of fact is if the dog has skin problems and needs treatments a vet will advise you to shave your pet for healing. Always consult a vet before shaving your pet.

Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA): This is a genetic disorder that affects eye development and causes vision issues or blindness. Diagnosis is done by an ophthalmologist. Genetic testing in breeding can reduce its occurrence.

Hip Dysplasia: This is a genetic condition where the hip joint malforms, leading to arthritis and pain. In this condition, they will face difficulty in moving.

Epilepsy: This is a neurological disorder that causes seizures. In this state, the collie will lose consciousness.

Dermatomyositis (DMS): This is an inflammatory disease that affects the skin and muscles. Due to this Collie will have skin rashes, ulcers, and muscle weakness.

Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA): This is a genetic disorder that causes gradual vision loss and with time blindness. Pets will face night blindness and reduced vision.
